I tried the krazy glue method on an 8" diameter circular scratch on my granite top caused by rotating a ceramic vessel. It didn't work, and now that I am planning on using a clear glass vessel instead of ceramic, the only remedy is to return the piece to the shop to have the whole top dressed and repolished. Yes, my stupidity for siliconing everything in place, but luckily after several days the silicone had not dried so I was able to cut between the granite and vanity base using a utility knife; cleaned up well with acetone.

Using Cyanoacrylate itself may take quite some time for it to cure. I've found this new product called Instantbond, a two parts cyanoacrylate adhesive. It comes with an activator spray that will instantly cure the adhesive when applied. Pretty neat!

Hi Rosemary,

I can't help a lot from where I stand. But what's been done is done. My opinion is that you can do two things.

First, call another person who is willing to take a look at the granite countertop and check out what he thinks and is there anything he can do about it.

Or second, repair the scratches by yourself, using cyanoacrlyate.

I have to say that the core of the problem is accepting the granite your are not satisfied with from the start. Now you have to make extra steps and I suggest you call someone who is knowledgeable in this area and has experience. This is the best way to get most out of your countertop.

I hope this helps.

Good luck,
John

You need to have as low level of humidity as possible. Also, it would be best to store glue in polyethylene bottles. When you close the bottle with cyanoacrylate, you should store it in the freezer. Make sure to close the bottle properly and do not let any water inside the container. Humidity and high heat is something you should avoid at all costs.

For long term storage, its best to use a jar and a desiccant pack so no condensation is possible.

Thank you for your comments MD AAMIR,
John

We had a granite counter top installed 2 months ago. The granite is scratched and has chips. The owner returned to fill, only,a few chips and did not polish or try to improve the appearance. He stated that this is natural stone and it is what it is. What do we do and what can we say to the owner to please come back and do a better job. We have paid and we should not have until this was taken care of. We chose wine river. We did not pick out the slabs. Please advise us, Sincerely, Rosemary
